Having trouble with quake 4, loading takes like 15 minutes then the game is very very slow to render and move,

I recently bought new computer, AMD athlon x2 3800+,DDR2 PC4200 1024mb ram, nvidia geforce nx7300 le grafix card, 160gb SATA hdd, why is it taking so long and so slow when the game starts? Is it a memory issue?
