Can someone give me a recipe for fig preserves!?

Not strawberry fig preserves, just plain fig preserves. How much sugar do you use per pound of figs? Also why does most recipes call to use lemon in it? Do you have to use lemon? Just want plain fig preserves to eat with biscuits like my grandma used to make.
