French directed writing help?

During my directed writing, which is part of the Higher French exam in Scotland I think I used the perfect tense where it should in fact have been the imperfect. However I was told by my French teacher that this would still be acceptable. I said - "Chaque matin, j'ai pris le train � l'h�tel en ville." Would this still be acceptable French or would I have to have said "Chaque matin je prenais le train � l'h�tel en ville" in order to gain a mark?
